Last Saturday, before heading off to enjoy the different Day of the Dead festivities all over the city, Spanish rock bands united at the Carvin Guitar Studios in Hollywood for the second event of the newly formed Unirock movement.
According to Unirock’s official press release, “Unirock is the union of Spanish rock bands with the purpose of renewing Spanish rock.”
“Unirock is not only interested in promoting Spanish rock but is also interested in the artistic and professional growth of each band allied to this movement. As proof, on October 12, 2013, Unirock released a cd entitled ‘Unirock 1.4′, which is a compilation by local Spanish rock bands Radio Elei, Alianza Rebelde, La Era and Manantial De Fuego.’”
For this showcase at the Carvin Guitar Studios, original members of Unirock, Alianza Rebelde and La Era were joined by one of the most talented bands in the L.A. rock scene, Love Star, and the last minute addition of rockers Ni Modo.
This great afternoon of music began with an acoustic set by Ryan, lead singer and guitarist from Alianza Rebelde, who played some of the songs included on the compilation cd “Unirock 1.4”.
The Doctor and Starla, better known as Love Star, played an outstanding acoustic set with amazing renditions of songs from their new album “Espectro: Las Cronicas Vivas, Capitulo Uno”.
La Era took the stage and pumped up the volume with an electrifying performance in which they played songs included on the Unirock compilation cd along with other tracks from their repertoire.
Last minute addition to the show, Ni Modo, showed why they are one of most exciting bands in the L.A. rock scene with their blend of ska, “ranchera-ish” and straight ahead rock & roll. Ni Modo not only debuted new songs along with songs from their usual set list including a raucous ska version of “Te He Prometido”, the 70’s Spanish pop classic from Argentina’s Leo Dan.
