Tainy, the number one producer in Latin music, continues to curate a movement in Urban culture, this time, with the release of “Mera”, the first single and video from his upcoming new EP, “The Kids That Grew Up On Reggaeton: Neon Tapes”.
Dalex and Álvaro Díaz, two of the most promising artists of the new wave of Latin Urban talent, join in on this collaboration. “Mera” is a fusion of modern sounds, with a “vibe” from Reggaeton’s golden age in which Dalex and Álvaro’s lyrics describe the dynamics of a secret affair that must be kept under wraps, but obvious with looks that create pure temptation. The music video was directed by Elliott Muscat, whose directorial vision aligns with the essence of the song. We can see Tainy driving the car at high speeds in which him and his boys are running from their “temptations” and at the same time having the time of their lives.
The name of this EP makes a clear reference to Neon16, an “incubator” of fully multifaceted talent that Marco Masís, aka Tainy, launched in 2019.
2019 was a very successful year for Tainy who was nominated for three Latin GRAMMYS®: winning in the “Best Urban Album” category for his production work on Bad Bunny’s ”X100PRE” album. He also had an applauded collaboration with Benny Blanco, Selena Gomez and J Balvin in “I Can’t Get Enough,” which was his debut as an artist; he recorded smash-hit “Callaita” with Bad Bunny and released “Adicto” alongside Anuel AA and Ozuna.
Lastly, he produced “Oasis” bad Bunny and J Balvin’s album that dominated the world charts and was key to Tainy’s positioning, where he took over Billboard’s “Top Latin Producer” list and currently holds a streak for 27 consecutive weeks, becoming the number one Latin producer.
2020 promises to bring even more success for Tainy, who is nominated for the American GRAMMY® in the “Best Latin Rock, Urban or Alternative Album” category for his production on Bad Bunny’s “X100PRE” and J Balvin and Bad Bunny’s “Oasis” also counts with two nominations for Premio Lo Nuestro, four nominations for Premios Tu Música Urbana and he will present his own show at the Ceremonia Festival in Mexico in April for the first time.
Tainy, who began exploring music production at age 14 in his native San Juan, Puerto Rico, is undoubtedly a major influence on the movement that is reinventing Latin Urban music.
